AMJ Collective are back with Rob Smith at the controls and have still have the power…
It feels like no time since the last AMJ Collective release cast a spell on us, but it’s been 3 years. Patience is a virtue and the first releases are now emerging from recording sessions in 2018 in the heart of Wales. The Welsh countryside is enough to inspire any soul, and that much is apparent here. Rob Smith is at the controls once again and has produced some very special tracks indeed in the first brace of EPs. This is classic dub music, with different versions all built around the same exoskeleton, but with changes in calibration and emphasis that reward repeated listening, the musicianship, vocals and production are crisper than ever. It comes as no surprise that Rob Smith was an interviewee in the excellent recent book “Bass Mids Tops” an epic oral history documenting the through-line of UK bass music from the 1970s to the present day, AMJ Collective embody that spirit – building on what came before, striding purposefully forwards. We can’t wait to hear what comes next.
