Possibly the biggest free festival in the UK, and most certainly the best, Africa Oye is this weekend. Now in it’s 26th year, Africa Oye is a joyful event and longtime fixture in the Liverpool calender. Sefton Park will be awash with music from and inspired by Africa. The line up is as exceptional as ever; Ghanian Afro Roots legend Rocky Dawuni headlines on Saturday and the original bad boys of reggae, Inner Circle, close out the festival on Sunday. As well as the outstanding main stage live acts and DJs there are all kinds of other things going on. We’re lucky enough to be a part of an outstanding line up on the Trenchtown and Freetown stages alongside a host of terrific local and visiting selectors, (many of whom also played at the wonderful Positive Vibration last weekend).
Check out the line up below:
The stages also feature a number of DJs from the consistently excellent Melodic Distraction radio. The monthly Africa Oye show is always a treat, check out the latest episode below. Event organiser Paul Duhaney and prominent Oye affiliate Richie Vegas play some great music and run through the line ups:
If you like Spotify then check out this excellent Oye playlist here. We’re spinning some on the Freetown stage at 4pm on Saturday, the whole weekend is always an absolute treat, and completely free, see you there!
