Culture Clash legend Don Letts brings exclusive DJ set to Chester’s Live Rooms

Funkdub Presents… Don Letts: bringing sound system culture to The Live Rooms with an exclusive DJ set on Saturday, 1st October.

Where do you start with an icon like Don Letts? The DJ, film director, musician and videographer has been central to the UK punk and reggae scene, most notably working with The Clash throughout the 70s and 80s.

His fabled dub and reggae DJ sets during the birth of the punk movement is credited with bringing the sounds of the Caribbean to the London scene, influencing The Clash and other major punk bands.

Letts went on to manage influential punk and post-punk band The Slits, before forming Steel Leg v The Electric Dread, with Keith Levene, Jah Wobble and Steel Leg. In 1984, Letts joined forces with Mick Jones of The Clash to form Big Audio Dynamite.

During all of this, Letts somehow found the time to directed music videos for Musical Youth, The Psychedelic Furs, The Pretenders and Elvis Costello, as well as the feature documentaries The Punk Rock Movie and The Clash: Westway to the World.

Now, Don Letts, The Rebel Dread, presents Culture Clash Radio on BBC Radio 6 Music, in addition to playing his inimitable sound clash selection to hand-picked venues across the world.

Funkdub Presents… Don Letts is the latest event from one of the regions’ most prolific and respected music promoters. Now in its 12th year, Funkdub have been showcasing some of the world’s most exciting artists, including Craig Charles, Dub Pistols, DJ Nu-Mark (Jurassic 5), Greg Wilson, The Skints, Dreadzone, Pharoahe Monch, Keb Darge and Pama International.

The gig also celebrates the relaunch of the official Funkdub website, featuring exclusive playlists, mixes, artist profiles, articles and archive material.

Don Letts will play an exclusive DJ set at The Live Rooms, featuring support from 3DJ & Gentleman Kush (Funkdub) and Radio Exotica DJs, on Saturday, 1st October.

Tickets are £10 in advance.
