The newest album from Spragga Benz marks his triumphant return to the forefront of reggae music innovation. On Chiliagon, Spragga pushes genre boundaries with his many collaborators including Lil’ Rossco, Toddla T, Cadenza & Epic B, Sukh Knight, Zed Bias, JD Reid, Rodney P, General Levy, Tanika, Killa P, Black Josh, Harry Shotta, Rebel ACA, Hype & Fever, and many more.
Spragga’s razor-sharp delivery cuts through infectious beats, blending roots, riddim, drum and bass, garage, grime, and hip hop to make the sound of Chiliagon.
Of his artistic direction, Spragga Benz says:
Sometimes it feels like a thousand different musical genres have come from reggae and dancehall. With this album, we set out to get into those styles, but I NEVER do what everybody is doing… I never follow any bandwagon.
The diverse and expansive Chiliagon continues Spragga’s reign as one of’ reggae’s greatest innovators and curators, knocking down boundaries with his focus on the musical blueprint he leaves behind. Spragga says, “It was effortless the way the album came together: the producers put their beats together, I put my songs together, and we got the sound we wanted.” The set’s primary producers are a who’s who of musical geniuses including Oury, his Buttercuts partner Andrew Fowler, Spragga and GRAMMY-nominated producer Cristy Barber. Singles “Wicked Love,” produced by Toddlah Tand and JD Reid, followed by “Spread Out” reintroduced Spragga Benz as a force to be reckoned with in 2019.
