We are thrilled to hear that past Funkdub guest, Hackney Colliery Band’s fifth album, ‘Collaborations: Volume One‘ is nearly here. This is by far the most ambitious record they’ve ever made, and represents a very exciting new chapter for the band.

Every track on this album is the result of a deep collaboration with incredible guests; from Grammy-winners like Angélique Kidjo, to legends of the British scene like James Taylor and Dennis Rollins (via Norway’s Bugge Wesseltoft and some spoken word explorations from Rob Auton), they’ve been lucky to work with some of our absolute heroes from the jazz and world music scene.

And few musicians are quite as legendary as the incredible Mulatu Astatke. I mean, this man has worked with Duke Ellington, been sampled by Kanye West, and pretty much defined an entire genre. He’s been a huge influence on the band since day one, and for them to be able to work with him on their new single ‘Netsanet’ (as well as another track on the album, ‘Derashe’) was a dream come true.

Check out the single RIGHT NOW…

They’re also back on the road for a short tour and a handful of festivals this summer!

It’s hard to believe that 2019 is our tenth anniversary, but now we’re ten years older it felt like the right time to get back to our jazz roots. It’s been such a privilege to work with so many of our musical inspirations both old and new on this record, and we’re super excited to be ushering in the next ten years with this new collaborative spirit: this is called ‘Volume One’ for a reason…
